PADDI is supporting local communities living around four protected areas in the regions of Boeny and Diana (Ankarafantsika, Ankarana,...

Project: Private Sector Innovation 2: As global markets increasingly prioritize low-carbon manufacturing and sustainable production, Egyptian industrial companies must adopt energy-efficient technologies and resource optimization strategies to remain competitive. Beyond cost savings, compliance with international regulations such as the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) and the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD) is now a critical requirement for export/ international oriented corporates. Climate (tech) startups offer innovative, scalable solutions for the industry that affects the whole value chain, all from carbon reduction, energy efficiency, to sustainable manufacturing (cleaner production, resource efficiency, circular designs) and waste management, yet Egypt"s startup ecosystem lacks the structured technical and financial support necessary to help these ventures develop viable and market relevant business models and attract investment. Addressing...

Jordan is among the most water-scarce countries globally, with per capita availability significantly below the international water poverty threshold. The strain on its already limited water resources continues to intensify, driven by the impacts of climate change and the growing demand associated with rapid population growth and urbanization. Decades of groundwater overexploitation have further exacerbated the situation, raising serious concerns about the long-term sustainability of the country"s water resources. The long-term planning of water-sector institutions does not fully address the challenges related to enduring resource availability. Moreover, changing water demands further complicate the optimal allocation of resources. At the same time, water utilities responsible for water distribution and wastewater treatment are struggling to sustain their service delivery levels and ensure the continuity of operations. Consequently, the development of sustainable and innovative water...

Corruption remains a major obstacle to Kenya"s prosperity. Governance challenges persist, particularly in the areas of transparency and accountability. In 2024, Kenya ranked 121 out of 180 countries on Transparency International"s Corruption Perception Index underscoring the scale of the problem. Fiscal constraints continue to limit the government"s ability to deliver essential services. Public debt stands at 70.2% of GDP and domestic revenue generation remains low. At the subnational level, counties often lack the tools and capacities for effective planning and results-based service delivery. This affects access to quality health, education, and infrastructure - particularly for women, youth, and marginalized groups. In 2024, public dialogue around fiscal policy reforms highlighted the need for more inclusive and transparent governance. In response, the government withdrew a controversial finance bill and reaffirmed its commitment to reform. Kenya"s recent inclusion on the...

This project aims to create an inclusive entrepreneurial ecosystem that better meets the needs of women entrepreneurs, particularly in green and sustainable sectors. The overall objective is to enable women entrepreneurs to access support structures tailored to their specific challenges and potentials. The initiative is implemented over four years (01/2024 - 12/2027) with a German technical cooperation contribution of EUR 6,000,000. It is piloted in ten wilayas: Algiers, Oran, Sétif, Constantine, Blida, Boumerdès, Tizi-Ouzou, Béjaïa, Ouargla, and Annaba. The project is structured around three core components: 1....

The project "Resilient Cities" (CiRes), funded by the Bundesministerium für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung (BMZ) and implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), has been promoting urban resilience in Ecuador since July 2023. The project's primary objective is to integrate comprehensive risk management approaches into both national policies and local urban development processes, considering current and future climate and disaster risks. With its focus on resilient urban development, CiRes aligns with the strategic priorities of sustainable urban development and contributes to the "Climate, Energy, and Just Transition" core area within the BMZ 2030 strategy. It also supports Ecuador's broader climate and disaster resilience commitments, as outlined in the Paris Agreement, the Sendai Framework, and the New Urban Agenda. To realize these goals, the project adopts a multisectoral approach that bridges disaster risk reduction and...
