In Surrey we would like to provide a training offer which enables professionals to maximise every opportunity to identify and respond to Domestic Abuse and Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG). This commissioned service will focus on providing training to professionals working with survivors and children who are subjected to and affected by domestic abuse, and those who are or have been perpetrating this behaviour. The training offer is crucial in ensuring that recent updated and changes implemented through the Domestic Abuse Act 2021 are both communicated and embedded into everyday practice, alongside the gaps and recommendations highlighted in the updated Domestic Abuse Needs Assessment for Surrey.

Research on Legal Aid Payment in Scotland

1.1       The project will consider the provider models that are operating in Scotland to establish a baseline for the cost of providing legal services and how legal aid providers operate under the current legal aid schemes and provide insights into the conditions (firms structures, business volumes and mix, cost base etc) that are most efficient for generating a return from legal aid work whilst meeting or exceeding quality requirements. The project will run concurrently to the Future of the Profession short life working group and data from that can inform this research and vice versa.    1.2       Importantly, the study will provide an evidence base on operating costs, overheads against legal aid earnings which will assist Scottish Ministers in coming to a view as to what reforms require to be made to the system of legal aid payments for future fairness and sustainability.

The Empowering Palestinian Institutions and Civil Society (EPICS) programme aims to improve the viability, legitimacy and inclusion of governance and service delivery, to protect and support civic space, and to empower women, in the OPTs. It will provide technical assistance to PA institutions across governance sectors, with a particular focus on financial viability and provision of essential services, in order to protect the fiscal viability and legitimacy of the Palestinian Authority (PA). Through improving PA viability and legitimacy it will help reduce the drivers of instability and extremism. EPICS will be managed by the British Consulate General Jerusalem. FCDO intends to engage a supplier of Technical Assistance to deliver Output 1: Strengthened systems and capacities for centre of government processes, public financial management (PFM) and tax. This workstream and the research carried out will explore and provide greater understanding of the way that prosecutors enact the Prosecutor's Code and supporting guidance when determining whether to charge a suspect, and in particular the extent to which this facilitates consistency in decision making. There is a need to explore the way in which prosecutors apply the Code and associated guidance, with a view to ensuring that that CPS has taken all reasonable steps to reduce disproportionality in decision making and is addressing its Public Sector Equality Duty.
