Economic inactivity interdependencies – data across local government in England
Local Government Association
Addressing economic inactivity is important for local government leaders as a way of enabling residents to achieve their potential for a healthy and productive life. LGA are keen to explore what is driving this sustained exit from the jobs market, how the picture differs nationally and locally, and what can be done by local government leaders and its partners alongside the national government, anchor institutions and employers to address this. In particular, we would like to focus on economically inactive people who might need local government services. In many ways, while addressing their support needs might not be too dissimilar to what is needed for unemployed people, we would like to explore more fully the link between employment and skills interventions and health at a local level to include public health managed by local authorities and health interventions led by newly established integrated care systems (ICSs). With the Government now committed to devolving more...

This supports the national strategy for research and core elements of the Long-Term Plan for delivering world-class health and care services for our communities.  The CNO Strategic Plan for Research 1 included the commitment to develop a set of priorities for research for the nursing profession, “ensuring the portfolios of relevant funders reflect the priorities for nurse-led research”....

NHS England
NHS England is commissioning an external health economic expertise to undertake a health economic evaluation of improvements to the pre-analytical phase of the blood culture pathway. This is a five-week contract to start in late February 2023. Project Background Managing sepsis presents substantial challenges for the NHS. In the UK alone, it causes over 200,000 hospital admissions and 48,000 deaths per year. Killing more than breast, bowel and prostate cancer combined, the timely and accurate diagnosis of sepsis is key in tackling this and improving patient outcomes.   The AMR Diagnostics programme at NHS England is currently undertaking substantial work to improve the use of blood cultures in the diagnosis of sepsis. The patient impact and clinical benefits are clearly defined through peer-reviewed journals; however, the health economic benefits to the NHS are not clearly documented. Improvements to the pre-analytical phase of the blood culture pathway are...

A pilot survey is important for testing a questionnaire, survey methodology and feasibility; the outcome of this pilot will inform decisions on whether the OfS conducts future surveys and links the data they produce with proposed provider-level regulation in harassment and sexual misconduct. Research Aims: Develop an approach to managing a national provider level student sexual misconduct prevalence survey. Develop and test a set of questions to measure sexual misconduct at a national level. Develop a prevalence estimate for sexual misconduct among students at participating higher education providers....

Socioeconomic review of recreational sea fishing in England
Cefas
Recreational sea fishing (RSF) is a high participation activity in the UK. Recent studies identify the activity as having a substantial economic impact and social benefits to those participating. However, the difficulty in quantifying these impacts and bringing them together means they are less well communicated and understood, hampering the ability to develop marine recreational fishing (MRF) as a sector, which is a key goal of the Fisheries Act 2020. Previous work by the Angling Trust, the recognised governing body for all recreational angling disciplines in England & Wales and Defra and Cefas has brought together some of the social and economic benefits of participating in and funding RSF. However, an analytical method of quantifying these benefits developed independently of industry and government is required. This methodology and its results will be used to inform future policy decisions.   Part 1: A systematic review of existing research to quantify sporting...

'Building a Sustainable Welsh Food System' Part 3 - Economic & Social/Culture Impact Assessment of Agroecological Pathway Scenarios
WWF-UK (World Wide Fund for Nature)
WWF Cymru is seeking to build on a recently completed assessment of the biophysical capacity of food production in Wales to transition to a fully agroecological net zero pathway by 2050. This work consisted of formulating a computer model that projected the likely impact of a full agroecological shift on existing food production, the resultant impact on territorial and total greenhouse gas emissions/sequestration, and the potential to diversify production to better reflect Welsh nutritional needs. To further develop these results, WWF Cymru wishes to refine a series of scenarios (examples provided below) to allow the model to be rerun and undertake a wider economic & social/cultural analysis of the results. The aim of this work is to produce a series of assessed transition pathways that show both the likely impact on food production, carbon emissions/sequestration, and the obtainment of dietary needs; and the likely impact they would have if pursued on the rural Welsh...
