Addressing economic inactivity is important for local government leaders as a way of enabling residents to achieve their potential for a healthy and productive life. LGA are keen to explore what is driving this sustained exit from the jobs market, how the picture differs nationally and locally, and what can be done by local government leaders and its partners alongside the national government, anchor institutions and employers to address this. In particular, we would like to focus on economically inactive people who might need local government services.
In many ways, while addressing their support needs might not be too dissimilar to what is needed for unemployed people, we would like to explore more fully the link between employment and skills interventions and health at a local level to include public health managed by local authorities and health interventions led by newly established integrated care systems (ICSs).
