The overarching objectives of this work are to learn from the existing evidence base and understand how DCMS and its Arms-Length Bodies (ALBs) can best design and deliver interventions which increase participation and engagement with the cultural sectors for lower socio-economic groups. The research aims to address the following: What do we know about ‘what works’ to address and reduce barriers to accessibility and engagement with the culture sectors for those from lower socio-economic groups (LSEG)? What policy interventions could be piloted or scaled up to potentially increase access and reduce these barriers? The methodology is two parts. Part 1 is an evidence review and Part 2 is primary research involving an in-depth case study analysis of interventions that aim to increase equality of access to arts and cultural activities for lower socio-economic groups.
