NHS England is looking for a supplier to develop research priorities to improve outcomes in community children’s nursing practice, focusing on Long COVID and its impact on children, young people (CYP) and families.  Project Background In November 2021, the CNO England launched a Strategic Plan for Research outlining an ambition to create “a people-centred research environment that empowers nurses to lead, participate in and deliver research, where research is fully embedded in practice and professional decision-making, for public benefit”. This supports the national strategy for research and core elements of the Long-Term Plan for delivering world-class health and care services for our communities.  The CNO Strategic Plan for Research 1 included the commitment to develop a set of priorities for research for the nursing profession, “ensuring the portfolios of relevant funders reflect the priorities for nurse-led research”....

Health Economic Evaluation of AMR Diagnotstic Technology

NHS England is commissioning an external health economic expertise to undertake a health economic evaluation of improvements to the pre-analytical phase of the blood culture pathway. This is a five-week contract to start in late February 2023. Project Background Managing sepsis presents substantial challenges for the NHS. In the UK alone, it causes over 200,000 hospital admissions and 48,000 deaths per year. Killing more than breast, bowel and prostate cancer combined, the timely and accurate diagnosis of sepsis is key in tackling this and improving patient outcomes.   The AMR Diagnostics programme at NHS England is currently undertaking substantial work to improve the use of blood cultures in the diagnosis of sepsis. The patient impact and clinical benefits are clearly defined through peer-reviewed journals; however, the health economic benefits to the NHS are not clearly documented. WEFO would like to commission a process and impact evaluation of the Supporting the NHS and Social Care through COVID operation. This European Social Fund operation supported the NHS through the recruitment of additional staff and the acquisition of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for the NHS and social care providers The evaluation will focus on assessing the effectiveness and efficiency of programme delivery and the outcomes achieved. It is proposed that the evaluation will utilise WEFO and NHS administrative data, and interviews with Welsh Government policy leads and key stakeholders. The evaluation is anticipated to commence in March 2023, and complete by August 2023.

Families are operationalised as either single-parent or two-parent families. Data will be obtained only from parents, and any information on children will be gathered through parents. The research must be commenced by 31st March 2023. The project, in its entirety, must be completed by March 2024.
